CEO of your life

If you are doing what you want, when you want, the way you want then congrats! You’re acting as the CEO of your own life.

If you’re constantly taking orders from others, and find yourself doing things you don't want to do more often than not - then, hello, you’re acting as if you’re somebody else's employee!

To make the shift from employee, to CEO of your own life, there are a few hard-truths you need to come to.

The first is what do you truly want? It’s hard to lead yourself if you are in the dark about where you’re going!

Once you’ve decided what it is you want, the next steps are to work out why this is important to you, and what you need to change to get there.

While this may be easier said than done, making a dream come to life requires you to visualise it becoming your reality. An easy way to do this is through a mood/vision board. You can adjust this board as you go, adding new goals and removing those you achieve down the track. You’re both the author and editor of this story!

It’s also very important to create a plan of attack. Companies set 5-, 3-, 1-year goals for a reason. You can break this up on a daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly basis so that you can always veer back to it to focus and re-centre you on your journey, kind of like checking on how your company is performing!

You can then share thai plan with a support network. While it’s important to remember that this is your journey, and your journey alone - that doesn’t mean you can’t be helped along the way. Just make sure that you share your plans with those who uplift and support you with a positive attitude - toxicity has no place here! Overtime, as you evolve more, your network may change as you discover people who are more like minded to you, your goals and your journey.

One thing that CEOs always do is speak their truth. There is no point fussing over what other people think of you, especially when they aren’t even in your lane to begin with. Say what you need to say, and do what you need to do. Staying quiet, or conforming to what others want - gets you nowhere. A truly fulfilling life can only materialise if we choose the life we are living for ourselves. So rather than seeking others’ approval, seek first your own approval and have the courage to follow through.

You’re bound to hit roadblocks as you shift your mindset to becoming the CEO of your own life. The only way to be successful is to take risks, and in doing so, you may stumble. The trick is to keep learning from the experience, and any opportunity to learn can never be a failure.
